1,000 reasons to be happy

Hampshire Youth Rugby League Association is pleased to announce that our fledgling competition will benefit from a one thousand pound grant courtesy of rugby league charity 'Rugby League Cares'.

Established last year, Rugby League Cares brought together the sport's pre-existing family of charities; the Rugby League Foundation, the RFL Benevolent Fund and the RFL Heritage Trust.

Rugby League Cares aims to support its local communities using the power and positive influence of rugby league.

Taking place across four key areas of the game (Grants, Welfare, Heritage and Benevolent Fund), Rugby League Cares already works with approximately 600,000 people each year providing services and projects worth around six million pounds.

Hampshire Youth Rugby League Association fulfils a number of Rugby League Cares' key criteria which include increasing participation for the juniors and the formation of teams and clubs considered to be in geographical development areas where Rugby League may not currently be easily accessible.

The grant funding from Rugby League Cares will help Hampshire Youth Rugby League Association to purchase a range of equipment that will assist the delivery of the league and comes at a vital stage of the project as we head towards our second mini festival on Sunday 22nd June.

HYRL League Manager Andy Moore praised Rugby League Cares for their vision in supporting the project. "Rugby League Cares have really given our Hampshire Youth League concept a timely boost. The idea is to increase the number of junior teams in the region to support the existing open ages sides such as Portsmouth Seahawks and Southampton Spitfires. This funding means we will be able to cater for more teams and provide a better level of service to our clubs".

Southampton Spitfires Chair Woman Claire Tyreman is a member of the Rugby League Cares charity and recommends others in the game join the cause. "Membership of Rugby League Cares is vital to the support of the game as a whole and they do some amazing work to help injured players. Membership is just £2 per month and your money will help wheelchair rugby teams, junior players, injured amateurs and professionals and the formation of regional leagues and clubs, just like here in Hampshire".
